"...the events that led me to comprehend that art can transform pain." Roman Polanksi

"Women have a thirst for order and beauty as for something physical; there is a strange female power of hating ugliness and waste as good men can only hate sin and bad men virtue." Chesterton

"The riddles of God are more satisfying than the solutions of man." Chesterton

"To the humble man, and to the humble man alone, the sun is really a sun; to the humble man, and to the humble man alone, the sea is really a sea." Chesteron

"Men do change, and change comes like a little wind that ruffles the curtains at dawn, and it comes like the stealthy perfume of wildflowers hidden in the grass." Steinbeck

"Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket--safe, dark, motionless, airless--it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. To love is to be vulnerable." Lewis

"We're not necessarily doubting that God will do the best for us; we are wondering how painful the best will turn out to be." Lewis

Break-Up Songs

A friend of mine recently went through the seemlingly inevitable romantic disappointment that is bound to befall beautiful and charming people. As a cathartic therapy to her pain, I sent a CD of great break up songs. Below is a collection. Please comment and add.

1. Goodbye My Lover - James Blunt
2. Cuts You Up - Peter Murphy
3. Let Me Down Easy - Chris Isaac
4. Pictures of You - The Cure
5. Brick - Ben Folds
6. Best of My Love - The Eagles
7. Make You Love Me - Bonnie Rait
8. Mr. Brightside - The Killers
9. I Do - Jude
10. Collide - Howie Day

"Shut Up" by the Black Eyed Peas depending on the type of break up? "Shut up, shut up, just shut up, shut up, just shut it up, shut up..."
Ok, maybe that's a little more on the offensive side, but perhaps songs such as these might make a person feel better about everything... you know, a kind of outlet ;-)

"Today" by the Smashing Pumpkins. Again, depending on the type of break up.
I'm really starting to look bad aren't I?

Ok... what's that Barenaked Ladies song, "Call and Answer?"

Also, I always feel like staying in all day long while stuffing my face with mint chocolate chip ice cream and randomly balling my eyes out when I hear "Nothing Compares to You" by Sinead O'Connor. Or maybe its the memory of Skateworld that really tears me apart!

Glad you are back, I'm laughing out loud, literally. Smashing Pumpkins is good for break-ups, depression, job loss, broken bones, pandemics, pretty much anything remotely resembling melancholy or any of it's cousins.

I think society should return to the order of arranged marriages, and the match making should happen at skateworld.

Ahh... Skateworld... memories of cotton candy, jelly bracelets, cheap arcade games, black lights, disco balls, lockers, skating on carpet, slow skate, speed skate (my fave), and of course the bad boys corner... the smoke room!
My favorite memory is when a girl bought my friend John a single plastic red rose and asked him to skate with her on the next slow skate song, which was of course announced by the DJ as a dedicated song to my flushed face friend. The best part though was that after I worked him up to do it, poor little (literally little) me stood watching as a chill of lonliness filled my soul. Just as I started feeling sorry for myself I felt a tap on my shoulder... "will you skate with me?" I vaguely remember saying yes before I even turned around only to discover the tallest girl I had ever seen. Smiling with a nice rack... of braces, and long witch like hair she placed her sweaty oversized hand in mine and began the adventure down memory lane. People were laughing and pointing, especially my friend John and his new hottie, but in the beautiful world of Skateworld nothing mattered... cause what happened at Skateworld stayed at Skateworld and lonliness was momentarily being pushed aside.
It seems like everyone agrees on one thing... outrageously cheesy but somehow so fulfiling.
Whew! Everyones got a memory of that place and that's mine :)

god how I miss skateworld, I loved the black lights...

Anyway, I just realized that Felicity and my song is a break up song! I wonder if this is a bad sign? Maybe we should call off the wedding...
